The University hospital in Würzburg has a long tradition dating back over 400 years. It is affiliated to one of the oldest universities in Germany. Major new development took place between 2004 and 2009 with the building of two new centres for surgery and internal medicine.
The University Hospital of Würzburg consists of four integrated clinical institutes that comprise 19 clinics with 87 units and 8 intensive care units. Each year, approximately 57,000 patients receive medical treatment in the facility and 240,000 receive out-patient care.
In addition, the University Hospital is affiliated with six vocational healthcare schools (nursing, pediatric nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, dieticians and massage).
