The hospital was founded in 1805. It consists of two locations, the Kliniken Tal (inner city) and the Kliniken Berg (Schnarrenberg). A clinic bus connects the two locations. The university’s hospitals include specialised outpatient clinics, surgeries, out-patient clinics and interdisciplinary centres (overall 17 clinics with 41 departments). This provides patients with excellent health-care support, comprehensive and interdepartmental diagnosis, as well as the best therapy and follow-up treatment. The state of the art research centre specialises in clinical brain research and occupies a leading position worldwide. 71 500 inpatients and 334000 outpatients are treated here in a year.
The University Hospital has established itself as one of the leading Centres of Medicine at University level in Germany. The German Science Council has certified that the Hospital and Faculty of Medicine provide outstanding services in the fields of research, teaching and health-care, and that both Institutions are pace setters in the field of Medicine at University level in Germany.
