Opened in 1976, this is the largest hospital of the region with 1,800 employees and 700 beds. It’s a tertiary care hospital and teaching hospital of the University of Göttingen. It consists of 14 clinics and two institutes. They treat 26,000 in-patients a year and nearly the same number of out-patients.

The hospital has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in internal medicine, surgery and trauma surgery, anaesthetics, dermatology, gynaecology, ENT, neurology and neuro surgery, psychiatry, radiology, radiotherapie and dental, oral and maxillo-facial surgery.
