The Klinikum Weser-Egge is run by the catholic hospital group Weser-Egge. The St Ansgar Hospital in Höxter was founded in 1978 with the amalgamation of the Catholic St. Nikolai hospital and the protestant St. Kiliani hospital. It has a history stretching back 150 years. With 396 in-patient beds, 11 specialist departments, two clinics (ENT and Opthalmology) and a specialist dialysis centre the hospital offers core medical services to the local population. The 600 employees treat 15,000 inpatients and 20,000 outpatients a year.
The Klinikum Weser-Egge has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in internal medicine, general, viszeral- and vascular surgery, anaesthetics, gynaecology and obstetrics and orthopaedics/trauma surgery.
