Initially planned as a barrack, the building was partly used as a military hospital during the 2nd world war and became a provincial hospital after 1945 before being extended into a district hospital.
Since June 2008, the hospital cooperates closely – due to the structural affiliation – with the Military Hospital Westerstede as “Klinikzentrum Westerstede”. They can also jointly take care for elective students.
The Ammerland Klinik is beautifully located between the Northern Coast and Oldenburg, an independent City in Lower Saxony in Germany.
Westerstede itself, where the hospital is located, is not particularly lively but the high standard of public transport in Germany means that Oldenburg is never far away.
The hospital itself employs 850 members of staff.
