The Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (ukb) is a cutting-edge clinical centre for the treatment and rehabilitation of seriously injured patients from anywhere in the region and holds a leading position in such specialized fields as the treatment of burns, spinal cord injuries and hand injuries. One of its 15 operating rooms is specially for severe burn victims.
Overall, it consists of 25 specialisations and departments. In 2010, the emergency room treated over 55 000 patients, half of which were subsequently treated as in-patients. The hospital is structured to enable easy and immediate access to all medical services. Doctors from all disciplines work either directly in the ER or are on-call, making them available around the clock to provide the necessary care of injured or acutely ill patients.
Thanks to its institute for telemedicine, the ukb supports other hospitals with digital radiology and teleneurology.
A rescue helicopter is stationed at the ukb, with two landing places on the roof.
The hospital is associated with the Charité -University medicine Berlin and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr).
