The Hospital Porz am Rhein is a relatively new institution, with building work on the hospital not completed until 1967 following a campaign by the local population to have their own hospital.
The hospital was largely restructured in 2004 and now provides core medical services to the population with an emphasis on vascular and cardiothorassic medicine and surgery.
The hospital is set in beautiful parkland beside the river Rhein in Porz which is about 10 km south of Cologne city centre and is now a part of the city. Porz is an industrial town with major companies such as the glass manufacturer Saint Gobain and Citroen having their headquarters here.
