The Armadale Health Service, which incorporates the Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital and Armadale Mental Health Service, is one of Australia’s leading public hospitals delivering quality health care to the community.
Armadale is a small, district hospital located 40 minutes south-east of Perth. The hospital is located 3 kilometres north of the Armadale city centre on the Albany Highway. The hospital has a recently refurbished Emergency Department and general medical wards, and also offers elderly, community and mental health services.
As the hospital is quite small, it does not deal with acute emergencies, these are sent to other larger hospitals. However, the small size of the hospital ensures that students feel part of the team when on an elective and there are ample opportunities for teaching and hands-on experience. However, due to the number of local students on rotations at this hospital, elective placements are only available during December and January, which is the Australian university holiday period, so the hospital is quieter at this time.
Armadale staff are said to be exceptionally professional and committed to the patients at the hospital, ensuring that their stay or visit to the hospital as pleasant as possible.
