Galway University Hospitals (GUH), made up of University Hospital Galway (UHG) and Merlin Park University Hospital Galway, provide secondary, regional and supra-regional services for the Health Service Executive – West. It is one of the major academic teaching hospitals in Ireland. The hospitals aim to deliver high quality and equitable care for all its patients, in a safe and secure environment and to achieve excellence in clinical practice, teaching, training and research.

The hospital provides a comprehensive range of services to emergency and elective patients on an inpatient, outpatient and day care basis across the two sites, with care in areas such as Diabetes mainly working out of the UHG. The Diabetes programme has also recently been twinned with a programme in Sudan to enhance training in Diabetes management and treatment. Click here for more information.

The hospital’s Blood and Tissue Establishment was also recently awarded the Good Manufacturing Process licence for its excellent clean room protocol.

Galway University Hospitals play a leadership role in acute service delivery providing regional services for a wide range of specialities and is also a designated supra regional centre for cancer and cardiac services serving a catchment area in the region of one million people along the West from Donegal to Tipperary North.
