Set in the heart of Limerick, Barringtons Hospital is currently the only private hospital in Limerick (it has been a private hospital since 1994), but the hospital actually has over 170 years history of providing medical care in the Mid West region. Originally built in 1829, Barringtons was closed as a public hospital in 1988 during the country’s health cut-back strategies. However, it re-opened in 1989 as a private medical centre before becoming a private hospital in 1994. It is the first stand-alone ambulatory day care centre in the county.
Barringtons Hospital is committed to the delivery of the highest level of patient care and comfort and in 2009 the hospital was awarded the international JCI accreditation standard for its attention to care in this regard. Barringtons states that the needs of the patient are at its core.
