ADK Hospital is one of the largest private healthcare organisations in the Maldives. Situated in Malé, the hospital is one the two major hospitals on the island and is owned by ADK Enterprises which also owns one of the biggest pharmacy lines in Malé. However, the hospital initially began as a small medical clinic with a single doctor and an attached pharmacy that was opened in 1987 under the name “Mediclinic” by Mr. Ahmed Nashid and Mr. Hassan Ibrahim. In 1990, as the clinic became more and more recognized and its services expanded, it was given the upgraded status of Medical Centre, before being given hospital status.
In 2008, ADK Hospital began a new regeneration process at the hospital, including refurbishment of the existing hospital wing and also the construction of a new multi-storey hospital wing. ADK is one of the most successful businesses in the Maldives and has developed some lucrative contracts to support the medical facility, though the running of the pharmaceutical business is now separated from the healthcare aspect of the enterprise.
