Esperance Hospital is a moderately sized healthcare facility in the town of Esperance, 450 miles south-east of the state capital. It has a range of medical and surgical services, including an Emergency Department. With a population of 15,000, Espereance lies on the Southern Ocean coastline and is famous for its beautiful beaches and surfing culture. Esperance District Hospital is a 40-bed hospital providing services for accident and emergency, obstetrics, medical, general, surgical (limited), palliative care, paediatric and psychiatric admissions. Inpatient gynaecology, surgery and orthopaedic services are provided by visiting specialists. The hospital also operates several community health programmes.

As a rural placement, enquiries about this elective should initially be placed through the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia (RCSWA). The RCSWA will enquire at the hospital, and others in rural WA, regarding the opportunity of a placement. There is a faculty fee for this process that will be determined with the University of Western Australia.
