Exmouth is located on the tip of Western Australia’s North West Cape and has only a small multipurpose medical facility. A popular tourist destination, the town’s population swells six-fold during the holiday season. It offers a range of services, including Emergency facilities, Intensive Care, obstetrics and mental health. The service is associated with the Carnarvon regional hospital and offers acute care, aged care, and 24 hour emergency care in addition to visiting services.
The town of Exmouth is an ex-US military base and is in a very remote location on the West Cape of Western Australia; there are only a couple of Greyhound services a week. Students taking electives in this area will need to have their own transport, but will be able to visit some beautiful beaches and canyons.
As a rural placement, enquiries about this elective should initially be placed through the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia (RCSWA). The RCSWA will enquire at the hospital, and others in rural WA, regarding the opportunity of a placement and if one is available. There is a faculty fee for this process that will be determined with the University of Western Australia.
