The Hospital is located on the southern outskirts of Oban and forms a hub for both acute and community services within the area. Purpose built in 1997 to reprovide facilities previously provided from a number of small hospitals throughout the district, the Hospital houses a full range of facilities expected in a rural general hospital.
Acute facilities (theatres, Accident & Emergency, Out patients and wards) are all equipped to the latest standards, General Medicine and General Surgery services are staffed by a total of 8 resident consultants (with additional junior doctor support) including anaesthetists, whilst surgical sub-specialties e.g. Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Gynaecology are staffed by visiting consultants from Glasgow and Paisley. In addition the Hospital caters for Palliative care and elderly patients as well as providing a midwife led midwifery service and a multi-purpose Day Hospital.
