The Cinterandes Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose goal is to promote human development, the liberation of human potential leading to mankind’s progress, well-being and improvement of quality of life. The Foundation is based in Cuenca, Ecuador and began work with a mobile surgical unit in 1994. The Foundation has carried out over 7,500 surgeries in the first 22 years, providing surgical and medical care to underserved areas in Ecuador.
The mobile surgical unit, beside their direct care impact, was able to cement the work of the Foundation and enabled workers to establish more community programmes in remote regions. These included nutrition, immunisation and maternal health programmes. Additionally to the mobile surgical unit rotation, the foundation offers opportunities in local urban and rural hospitals and health centers.
The workers at the foundation also believe that to be truly effective, a holistic approach must be taken to healthcare and the Foundation has branched out into teaching, telemedicine, trauma and family health programmes.
