The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is a specialist paediatric hospital that offers medical care for children and young people in the Lothians and beyond for over 150 years. It is under the jurisdiction of NHS Lothian and is part of Lothian’s University Hospitals Division. It is sometimes referred to as ‘the Sick Kids’, and it provides a comprehensive range of dedicated children’s services, including its own accident and emergency department.
The hospital is currently based at Sciennes, near Edinburgh city centre, and offers services including acute medical and surgical care, specialist surgical and medical care, haematology and oncology, day care and critical care. However, a project is ongoing to relocate this busy hospital to the site of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, in an adjacent building. This will be in the Little France area on the outskirts of the city.
