Mount Vernon Cancer Centre

Specialist Hospital/Clinic | Northwood, United Kingdom

Hospital description

This hospital has previously supported PJ and Famulatur placements.

The Mount Vernon Hospital is a specialist hospital that is managed by the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Initially the hospital was a general hospital but has developed into one that provides skilled and specialised services, as well as local acute (medical and surgical) services.

Mount Vernon has a long history, as it was initally founded in 1860 as the North London Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest. The hospital moved to Northwood in 1904 and has since received awards and research grants from Marie Curie (hospital for women cancer patients) and the Gray laboratory for cancer research.

The new hospital and treatment centre has replaced a dated collection of buildings from the 1960s, the two-storey new building is attached and integrated with the existing Princess Christian Unit and together they constitute the new Mount Vernon Treatment centre. The new element of the building houses four state of the art operating theatres to carry out elective surgery, plus outpatient services, a spacious waiting area, main entrance and coffee shop.
