The King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital located in the city of Pune is the largest Non-Government Organisation in the Pune District of Maharashtra State. The hospital has 550 beds and is a tertiary-level teaching hospital, which serves the city of Pune as well as the surrounding urban and rural areas.
The institution was founded in 1912 in memory of King Edward VII and comprised of four maternity beds. By 1944 the hospital had grown to have 40 beds, an operation room, labour room, and nurses’ quarters. In 1967 the hospital further expanded to be a 200-bed General Hospital with the addition of medical, surgical and paediatric departments.
