The National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) was founded in 1895 and has been established as a national teaching hospital, continuing to collaborate with the university’s curriculum to nurture talent in medicine and various specialities. Today, the hospital remains the best-known and most highly renowned medical center in Taiwan.

NTUH has gained international recognition for its pioneering research accomplishments in biophotonics and clinical trials, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis & cancer and also for organ transplantation.

The hospital is a world renowned medical center for liver diseases and advanced surgical, angiographical and endoscopic procedures are routinely performed there.

The NTUH Heart Transplant Division is a staple part of the National Taiwan University Hospital and the division performed its first successful heart transplantation in 1986 – this was the first heart transplant in all of Taiwan. In 1995, it was the first hospital in all of Asia to implant biventricular-assist devices which were then bridged successfully into a heart transplant. Due to these amazing advances, it has become world-renowned for heart transplantation and research.
