The Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Yaoundé – CHU (University Teaching Hospital of Yaounde) was founded in 1965.
Since 2013, the staff started several strikes. They were demanding their salary, which hadn’t been paid, criticized conflicts with their pension and the corruption in the house.
Another claim was the age of the working equipment. The operating rooms were not air conditioned, the lighting poor. Sometimes they had to operate patients with kerosene lamps.
In October 2015 a new director was appointed.
