Half Assini Hospital was founded in 1974 as a District hospital. It is the only hospital in the Jomoro District, in the Western Region of Ghana, in a rain forest zone with high humidity and temperature throughout the year. The town Half Assini has a population between 5000 and 10,000. The hospital is situated in a poor community inhabited mainly by farmers and fishermen.
It has a fully functioning theatre that operates on the average 20 major and 30 minor cases in a month. It lacks a proper A&E unit although due to the high number of accidents (the roads are very bad) it always has to improvise. In October 2014 work has begun on the construction of a multi-purpose children’s ward.
They offer Medical Electives, Surgical Electives, Antenatal Electives, Psychiatry Electives, Labour Ward Electives, Dental Electives, Physiotherapy, Hiv/Vct Unit, Ambulance Service, Eye And Ear Special Clinic Electives.
