Wellspring Birth Center is a private community midwifery centre in Kingwood, a suburban community on the edge of Lake Houston, a few miles northeast of Houston, Texas. Kingwood, sometimes called the Livable Forest, is a peaceful community of around 65,000 people, and is best known for the harmony between the town and its natural setting of pine trees and varied wildlife, especially within the 500 acres (2 square km) of private nature reserves and parks. The Birth Center itself has a “spa-like atmosphere”, aimed at providing comfort and a homely feel.
Wellspring Midwifery Care specialises in low risk births, both within the Birth Center and home births around Kingwood. Wellspring’s ethos is centred on Christian values, and sees pregnancy and birth as natural processes. Because of this, Wellspring values natural birth – including vaginal births after Caesarean section (VBAC) – over all other options.
Wellspring offers a holistic approach to birth, offering Aromatouch, Massage and Doula services. Mothers’ wishes are at the forefront of birth plans, including waterbirthing, religious and cultural customs and rituals, and placenta encapsulation. Complications in pregnancy or birth are referred to local hospitals, although Wellspring midwives accompany patients who are transferred.
Wellspring Midwifery Care also offers a range of antenatal and postnatal services. As well as prenatal and postpartum care being offered and encouraged for all clients, the Center offers basic labwork services, prenatal massages, chiropractic services and antenatal classes ranging from childbirth education, to classes on breastfeeding and even essential oils.
