Saint Göran Hospital is an emergency hospital for adult patients in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is located on Kungsholmen, a small island in the city centre in Stockholm and is one of Sweden’s oldest hospitals. With Karolinska Hospital (Karolinska sjukhuset) it is Stockholms’s main hospital and a primary trauma centre. The hospital is one of the country’s largest counting the number of received patients. In 2012 it had about 77 000 visits at the hospital’s emergency department. Capio S:t Göran is large enough to offer a broad spectrum of 31 medical specialities, but at the same time just small enough for all employees to be able to influence decisionmaking.
In one way Capio S:t Göran’s differs completely from other hospitals in Sweden, since 1994 being the first and so far only privately owned emergency hospital in the country. Since the year 2000 it as been part of Capio, one of Europe’s leading health care companies.
