The Castle Street Hospital for Women is the premier women’s hospital in Sri Lanka. It is able to serve a wide array of services for women. It provides services to expecting mothers, gynaecological patients, sub fertile patients and neonates. The hospital performs more than 16,000 deliveries per year. It also has one of the largest neonatal units in Sri Lanka. The hospital is a tertiary care teaching hospital and is a forerunner in training health staff.
The Castle Street hospital has a 24h OPD with a number of clinics for follow up visits. More than 100,000 patients visit the hospital clinics every year. From 2000, the hospital embarked on a project to improve productivity and quality and has been rewarded for maintaining high standards.
The hospital provides comprehensive care for maternal, gynaecological and neonatal patients. It acts as a tertiary care referral centre and as a teaching hospital for undergraduate medical students, post-graduate doctors, nurses and midwifes.
The Outpatient Department functions 24 hours a day treating outpatients and providing emergency care treatment. A separate emergency treatment unit (ETU) is situated in OPD to provide emergency care.
