The Malteser-Hospital in Berlin specialises in geriatric care. It was founded by the Caritas Association and the “Verein Schlesischer Malterserritter” (Order of Maltese knights) in 1966. It caters for the needs of older patients and treats acute and chronic internal illnesses. The main areas of treatments are heart and vascular diseases, the after-care after surgical procedures and strokes, internal illnesses and the treatment fof secondary illnesses that are associated with diabetes. Five of the hospitals 97 beds are reserved for palliative care.
