The SLK-Kliniken Heilbronn group of hospitals employs around 4,200 members of staff which makes it the largest health care provider in the region. Each year, more than 72,000 in-patients receive treatment and care over five hospital locations. Their birthing departments see the births of about 3,000 babies per year. Care provision reaches from general district hospitals in Heilbronn, Bad Friedrichshall and Möckmühl to geriatric rehabilitation in Brackenheim to a specialised lung hospital in Löwenstein.
Klinikum am Plattenwald is the second largest hospital of the group and surrounded by generous parks. It started operations in 1977, an extension was opened in 2016.
The hospital has an affiliation with the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and urology.
