The children’s centre in Maulbronn, opened its doors in 1979 under trusteeship of the “Diakonisches Werk der evangelischen Landeskirche in Württemberg” (protestant church of Württemberg). Its founding idea was to provide a place for early diagnosis and therapy, early support and education of children and young people with impairments and disorders. This was to help these children to lead an as independent as possible life and to help their families. Today the centre consists of a sociopaediatric centre and a hospital for paediatric neurology and social paediatrics. An interdisciplinary team treats chronic illnesses, developmental disorders, disabilities and psychosocial disorders.
The hospital has an affiliation with the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in paediatrics.
