The Diakonie-Klinikum is run by the protestant Diakoniewerk in Schwäbisch Hall, it is a general district hospital with 22 clinics and institutes. The Diakoniewerk also operates a hospital in Crailsheim. Each year the around 1,300 members of staff assure care of around 25,000 in- and another 35,000 out-patients. It was ranked as one of the top regional hospitals in the Baden Württemberg region of Germany and also as a top hospital for births in the newsmagazine Focus’ ranking of German hospitals in 2017.

The hospital has an affiliation with the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in surgery and internal medicine, anaesthetics, gynaecology, neurology, paediatrics, psychosomatics, radiology and urology.
