The Krankenhaus Nordwest in the north-west of Frankfurt/Main is run by the foundation “Stiftung Hospital zum Heiligen Geist“ which also runs the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist in central Frankfurt. In the middle ages, the foundation’s aim was to provide care for the ill and poor, in this tradition it is running today’s modern hospitals.
Krankenhaus Nordwest is a regional district hospital that provides specialised care in a number of disciplines. It houses eleven specialised units and four institutes and in addition to that the Centre for Tumour diseases. Its oncological centre has a reputation beyond the region, while the neurology clinic is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. The Newsmagazine Focus named it as one of the top hospitals in Hesse (Hessen) in its 2018 comparison of German hospitals. The hospital also has an affiliation with the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr).
