The Marien Hospital in Düsseldorf is part of the catholic VKKD (Verbund Katholischer Kliniken Düsseldorf) group of hospitals. It is a highly modern hospital in the centre of Düsseldorf with 437 beds. Around 63,000 in- and out-patients are treated here each year. It is one of the few hospitals in Düsseldorf and the immediate area which has all specialisations for diagnosis and treatment under one roof, thereby providing complete care for its patients. It also has an affiliation with the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr).

Düsseldorf is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the seventh lagest city in Germany. Düsseldorf is an international business and financial centre, renowned for its fashion and trade fairs. The city is also known for its academy of fine arts (Joseph Beuys, Emanuel Leutze, August Macke, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, and Andreas Gursky studied here), its pioneering influence on electronic/experimental music (Kraftwerk) and its Japanese community. On the river Rhine, Düsseldorf holds Rhenish Carnival celebrations every year in February / March.
