The Krankenhaus Maria-Hilf is run by the catholic Alexianer foundation one of the five largest catholic health and social care providers in the country. In its various clinics and competence centres, 25,500 in- and around 32,500 out-patients receive care and treatment here every year. The newsmagazine Focus ranked it as a top regional hospital in its 2018 comparison of 1000 German hospitals. It also has an affiliation with the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in surgery, cardiology, respiratory medince and internal medicine, anaesthetics, neurology, psychiatry, urology and paediatric urology.

Krefeld is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located northwest of Düsseldorf, its centre lying just a few kilometres to the west of the river Rhine. Having the fourth largest university of applied sciences in Germany, Krefeld is an important think tank for the region.
