The Städtische Kliniken Neuss – Lukaskrankenhaus is a general district hospital, the newsmagazine Focus names it one of the best 100 in the region in its 2018 comparison of 1000 national hospitals. The hospital houses a large number of specialisations. It has an affiliation with the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Neuss is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located on the west bank of the Rhine opposing Düsseldorf. It is primarily known for its historic Roman sites. Neuss was founded by the Romans in 16 BC as a military fortification (castrum) at the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Erft, with the name of Novaesium. In 1984 Neuss celebrated 2000 years since its foundation and therefore holds the title of “Germany’s oldest city” alongside the city of Trier.
