The General Hospital in Viersen (AKH) is a general district hospital. Around 15,000 in- and nearly 30,000 out-patients are treated here each year. With is 850 members of staff, it is one of the largest employers in Viersen, a town of nearly 76,000 inhabitants.

The hospital has an affiliation with the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in anaesthetics, gynaecology, paediatrics, radiology and urology.
