The St. Bernward Krankenhaus in Hildesheim is part of the largest catholic hospital and care group in Germany, the Elisabeth Vinzenz Verbund. Around 1,370 members of staff work together to provide care for more than 27,000 in- and 60,000 out-patients each year. The hospital houses 17 departments and four institutes.

The hospital also has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in internal medicine, surgery, anaesthetics, gynaecology, urology, neurology and paediatrics.
