Klinikum Bremen-Mitte is part of the Gesundheit Nord Klinikverbund Bremen group of hospitals. It is the largest hospital in Bremen, more than 100,000 patients receive their treatment here each year (60% are out- and 40% are in-patients). The other three hospitals in the group are Klinikum Bremen-Nord, Klinikum Bremen-Ost and Klinikum Links der Weser.
The hospital has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr). Places are available in surgery, internal medicine, anaesthetics, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology and obstetrics, ENT, neuro surgery, neurology, paediatrics, pathology, urology and dental, oral and maxillo-facial surgery.

As a commercial and industrial city at the banks of the River Weser, Bremen is part of the Bremen/Oldenburg Metropolitan Region, with 2.4 million inhabitants. Bremen is the second most populous city in Northern Germany and eleventh largest in Germany.
