Hospital description

The Marienkrankenhaus in Kassel is a district general hospital and part of the St. Vinzenz Krankenhaus gGmbH, Fulda, the largest catholic hospital provider in the Hesse region of Germany. The Marienkrankenhaus employs 520 members of staff, around 14,000 in- and 30,000 out-patients are treated here each year. The hospital works in two location, the Marienkrankenhaus itself and the St. Elisabeth-Krankenhaus Volksmarsen.

The hospital also has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr).

Kassel is a university town in the north of the Hesse region. With its 24,000 students, the city is characterised by its student culture. Every five years, Kassel is host to the documenta exhibition and therefore an important cultural centre in Germany. It is also home to the Herkules monument and the surrounding Mountainpark (Bergpark). Both have been on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites since 2013.
