The Klinikum Wilhelmshaven is a district general hospital with more than 1480 members of staff. The hospital houses 18 medical centres, clinics and departments. Around 40,000 out- and another 22,200 in-patients are treated here each year. More than 750 babies were born in the hospital in 2016 alone.
The hospital has an affiliation with the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen and acts as a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus) that will accept German students during their practical year (Praktisches Jahr).
Wilhelmshaven is a coastal town in Lower Saxony, it is situated on the western side of the Jade Bight, a bay of the North Sea. Wilhelmshaven is the centre of the “JadeBay” business region that has around 330,000 inhabitants. The adjacent Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park is part of the Wattenmeer UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and provides the basis for the major tourism industry in the region.
